LIST OF TEAMS ADVANCING TO CHAMPIONSHIPS IN HOUSTON!!!

The following teams and individuals earned top honors at the Hueneme Port Regional and earned their way to compete at the FIRST Championships in Houston, April 20-23, 2022

Regional Chairman’s

The Chairman’s Award represents the true spirit of FIRST.  It honors the team that best serves as a model for other teams to emulate and that embodies the goals of FIRST.  It remains FIRST’s most prestigious team award.  The Chairman’s Award is presented to the team judged to have the most significant measurable impact of its partnerships among its participants, school, and community over a sustained period, not just a single build season or school year. The winner is able to demonstrate progress towards FIRST’s mission of transforming our culture.  The recipient will be invited to the FIRST Championship where it will compete for the Chairman’s Award against the winners from all the other qualifying events.

  • Team 4400, Cerbotics from Torreon, Coahuila, Mexico

Engineering Inspiration

The Engineering Inspiration Award celebrates outstanding success in advancing respect and appreciation for engineering within a team’s school and community.  This team will advance to the Championships and receive a $5000 NASA grant toward registration.

  • Team 3374, Robobroncs from Jackson Hole, Wyoming

Regional Winners

FIRST Dean’s List Finalists will compete at the championship for the FIRST Dean’s List.

SWEet! – Women in STEM event

SWEet! – Women in STEM event

On International Women’s Day, March 8, 2022, FIRST California and SWE Orange County joined forces to share stories about how being a SWE member could help you reach your full potential along your STEM journey.

Attendees heard from a current FIRST student and FIRST alumnae who are SWE members – each at a different phase in their STEM journey: high school, college, and professional. They shared their engineering journeys, how they got involved with SWE and valuable resources like scholarship opportunities.

From high school to engineering professional, SWE has the resources for you!

Women in STEM Pre-Regional Rally

Women in STEM Pre-Regional Rally

On International Women’s Day, March 8, 2022, a virtual Pre-Regional rally was held for FIRST students planning to attend the San Diego Regional.

It featured an inspiring conversion with Amy Kaur, the co-founder of EngineeringGals, Civil Engineer and model. She discussed the importance of community and being unapologetic in paving our own path.

Watch below video for Amy’s presentation.

Students also had a chance to connect with each other and alumna in small breakout groups so that they had a chance to get to know each other before the upcoming Regional.

To encourage girls to connect with their peers and women engineers in the SWE community, Madalyn Nguyen (FIRST Dean’s List Winner 2020) shared about SWE and the benefits of a SWENext Club.

To add more excitement to the event, there were raffle prizes from UCSD School of Engineering, Maketory, Midway Museum and SWE.

A week ago the details of this season’s game, RAPID REACT, were revealed and our FIRST Robotics Competition teams in California are wasting no time in getting their robot built!

Teams have been challenged to build robots to deliver their payloads and collect cargo balls for delivery, receiving assistance from human players at the terminal.  For more details, take a look at the game animation video.
